In memory of telnet BBS
-
Browsing the internet archieve, i realize the former bowser engines are of such variety, but nowadays, most of them are not maintained or outdated. The browser markets are now monopolies (as an analogy)of firefox, safari and chromium.
The same comes true for web protocols, which is dominated by www.The previous protocol like gopher or telnet is forgotten in the corner of Internet or only known by experts.
Considering the strictness of today's Internet, building sites with other less common protocols can be an alternative. They don't rely on the port 80 which is blocked if not de-anonymizing yourself.
There are an archieved list of telnet BBS, some of them still exists, you can activate telnet function in windows menu to try a connection.Gopher does not totally die either, there is a plugin you can find in chrome store or firefox store that allows you to use public gopher proxy to have access to this ancient sites. -
